31 people killed as truck falls over a bridge in Gujarat

In a tragic incident 31 persons were killed when a truck carrying a marriage party fell off a bridge near Ranghola village of Bhavnagar district. The accident took place at 7.30 am. More than 40 people who were seriously injured were shifted to Sir KT hospital in Bhavnagar. Those dead include eight children and eight women.

The marriage party was on their way from Anida village of Palitana taluka of Bhavnagar to Tatam village in Gadhda taluka of Botad district. There were more than 60 people in the open truck. The groom was in a separate car and survived.

According to police the driver lost control of the vehicle due to drowsiness and the truck fell in 20 ft deep water. The truck fell on concrete base of under construction bridge. Soon villagers rushed to the spot and helped in rescue operations. Heart rending scenes were witnessed as dead bodies lay strewn in the area.

Despite the tragedy the marriage ceremony was performed in a simple way. The relatives of the bride were not informed about the accident and rituals were carried out.

In the evening last rites of the dead were carried out. The dead were mostly from Anida village. The government has announced assistance of Rs. 4 lakh to the relative of each deceased person. BJP president Jitu Vaganhi and state education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma reached anida village and participated in the last rites of the deceased.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered condolences to the victims families. In a message PM said “My condolences to all those who lost their loved ones due to an accident near Ranghola in Gujarat. The accident was extremely unfortunate and anguishing. May those who have been injured recover at the earliest.
