More than 4.5 crore voters will cast their vote in the state on Tuesday for 26 seats Lok Sabha seats. Of these 10.06 lakh voters are young in the age group of 18-19 years.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth polling, state Chief Election Officer (CEO) Dr. S Murli Krishnan said. He said that more than 44,000 policemen along with 150 companies of central forces and SRP will be deployed all over the state. For the first time 1,055 forest beat guards will also be deployed for the election work.
He said that the polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. The EC has banned exit polls and opinion polls. Dr. Krishnan said that VVPATs will be used in five centres of each Assembly segment. To a question about irregularities in polling he said that EC has taken effective steps to ensure free and fair polling.
He said that EC has received 186 complaints for violation of code of conduct and inquiry is going on. 12 candidates have been issued notice for their failure to provide details of poll expenditure.
There 902 all women polling stations in the state where all employees would be women. These will be called ‘pink polling station’.
The state excise department has seized 130.73 kg of contraband drugs, liquor worth Rs. 11.13 crore, Rs.7.58 crore cash and gold-silver worth Rs. 1.88 crore totalling Rs.544.94 crore.
Giving details about electorate he said that there are 2,34,28,119 male voters, 2,16,96,571 female voters, 990 transgenders and 26,693 sewa voters which sums to 4,51,52,373 voters. There are 1,68,054 “divyang voters” in the state who will be provided special facilities to enable them to vote.
In all there are 371 candidates in fray for 26 Lok Sabha seats and 45 candidates for 4 Assembly seats.
