Research in Motion (RIM) has announced the update for the Blackberry 7 OS. The new OS 7.1 brings with it many awaited features like Wi-Fi hotspot, BBM 6.1, NFC sharing, BlackBerry Tag, FM Radio etc.

The hotspot feature is similar to that in Android phones through which Internet access for up to five Wi-Fi devices, including laptops and tablets can be provided by using the phone’s data connection.  Using BlackBerry Tag you can share contacts, media and files, and even invite friends to BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). Talking about BBM, BBM V 6.1 also comes with this update.

Near field communication (NFC) is used  to establish radio communication between devices y touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimeters. NFC can be used to share pictures, videos and contacts between phones.

The BlackBerry OS 7.1 will be rolled out for all the BlackBerry OS 7 devices from the carriers around the world beginning today and over the coming weeks. The new BBM 6.1, can also be downloaded from the BlackBerry App World separately.
