A police constable posted at Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) was found murdered early on Thursday morning in his office. The family members of the deceased cop have demanded CBI inquiry into the incident. Surprisingly the CCTV cameras in the office were found to be closed!
The police suspect a person who was brought for questioning in connection with a loot and narcotics case, to be behind the murder.
The constable was murdered after midnight at the Gaikwad haveli office of the DCB. The officials found constable Chandrakant Makwana, in his late 30s, dead in the office of a police sub-inspector at around 7 am. He was lying in a pool of blood. The suspect has been identified as Manish Balani who allegedly hit the cop on his head and face with an iron rod and ran away from the scene.
Police Inspector RR Sarvaiya said that Makwana had brought Balani, a suspect in a loot and narcotics case for questioning. Officials said he hit Makwana with an iron pipe on his head and face which caused his death. “Makwana was alone with Balani during the questioning late in the night. We don’t know yet that how and from where the pipe was brought in the room. But we suspect Balani behind the murder of Makwana. We have sent different teams behind Balani who is originally a resident of Jaipur in Rajasthan,” Sarvaiya said. Officials said that the reason behind murdering Makwana is not known. This is perhaps the first time when such an incident has taken place in the DCB office.
What raises questions over the entire incident is that besides staff in the office 12 SRP jawans were present at the three gates of the building. Still the culprit managed to escape. Incharge DGP P P Pandey has ordered inquiry into the incident.
