Even as the state government is mulling up a proposal to allow Navratri events doctors in the state are against it. They have advised government not to allow Navratri events as it will lead to spike in corona cases.
Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) has written a letter to Deputy Chief Minister urging him to not to give permission for the garba events. AMA president Dr. Mona Desai said that Navratri is such a festival where it will be difficult to maintain social distancing and other procedures. “How can one do garba for 2-3 hours wearing a mask?”, she asks.
Last week Deputy CM had announced that the government was thinking of giving permission for garba events with SOP. One senior doctor condemned the idea and said that the government is bowing to organisers demands.
A social media post by a doctor against garba is thought provoking. He says that why should doctors risk themselves in treating patients who are inviting corona by joining programmes like garba?
