The domestic flight operations at the Sardar Vallabhbahi International Airport at Ahmedabad became normal on Monday after one and half months of repairing work of the runway. The runway as severly damaged in the heavy rains last year and the repairing work was taken up in two phases.
The domestic flight operations were affected as the runway was closed from 10 am to 7 pm from March 1 to April 15. All the flights were rescheduled and as the number of flights decreased people had to pay through their nose for travel to various cities.
The 3.5 km long runway was resurfaced and repaired in two phases. In the first phase the runway was closed from February 16 to 28. International traffic was not affected as most of these flights operate during the night.
