The Centre has given nod for 300 MBBS seats in the state from this year. With this the total number of available MBBS seats in the state will be 4450. The colleges have been given nod from Medical Council of India(MCI) also.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that the centre has given permission for 150 seats each in Nadiad and Visnagar. He said that admission will be given on these seats from this year.
The seats will be available in Dharamsinh Institute of medical college, Nadiad and Nutan medical college and research centre, Visnagar. With this there will be hospitals of 300 beds each providing healthcare facilities to the people of the cities.
These colleges are Greenfield medical colleges which will get special incentives from the state government. Under the scheme government will give assistance of Rs.15 lakhs per year for each seat for five years.
Patel said that a proposal for 300 more seats in Ahmedabad and Amreli is also pending before the centre and will get approval soon.
