Despite Gujarat Secondary Education Board’s request, the state government has decided to go ahead with Navrati vacation in schools and colleges this year also. The vacation was declared last year for the first time and many schools had opposed it.
The state education department on Tuesday announced 8 day Navratri vacation from Sept. 30 to Oct. 7 and 13 day Diwali vacation from 25/10 to 6/11. Last year also many schools had opposed the vacations but government made it compulsory for the schools.
Last week in its meeting the Gujarat Higher Secondary and Secondary Education Board (GHSEB) passed a resolution asking the government to cancel the vacation. Board officials said that there is very little time between Navrati and Diwali vacations and the schools and colleges have to rush to complete course and conduct semester exams.
