Gujarat government today announced that all farmers in the state will get financial assistance from the government because of unseasonal rains that have affected almost all farmers.
Announcing this, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that this is a unique package which is for the first time in the state. He said that in this package farmers of all 33 districts in the state will get financial aid totaling to Rs 3795 crore. He said that much of this will be under SDRF in which central government contributes 75% of the amount.
However 5814 villages which do not qualify under the central government sponsored SDRF the state government will give money which comes to Rs 684 crore and involes 17.10 lakh farmers. He said that never in the past no government took such a step.
Nitin Patel said that incase where rains have affected farmers the aid is given. However farm produce was affected because of bad weather condition also. But this is not included in the package regulated by SDRF, so the state government has decided to to go on its own in such cases.
He said that all rural talukas are covered in this package. Earlier on November 13 the state government had announced a package of Rs 700 crore. However the rains continued even after this period and so the government has decided to give aid to all farmers
the area where there were rain farmers will get aid of Rs 6800 per hectare with limit of 2 hectare. All others will get aid at the flat rate of rupees 4000 per farmer he said.
