The Gujarat High Court has issued notice to former Congress MLA Alpesh Thakore and Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi for non- disqualification of Thakore. Congress had moved HC as Thakore resigned from all the posts of the party just before Lok Sabha elections and party had sought his disqualification.
Congress had made representations to the Speaker urging him to disqualify Thakore who was no more Congress MLA. But Speaker has not taken any action till now. Congress MLA Ashwin Kotwal has filed a plea in the HC. He said that though Thakore has resigned as MLA he was yet to be disqualified despite repeated representations.
Thakore was elected on Radhanpur seat from Congress. But he resigned from the party alleging betrayal by leadership. He even resigned from primary membership of the party. Terming it a sheer indiscipline and anti-party activity, Congress had approached the speaker for his immediate dismissal but as it did not happen the party knocked at the court’s door. Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Alpesh might join ruling BJP by the end of the month.
The HC has fixed next hearing on June 27.
