Key conspirator of Akshardham attack nabbed from Anantnag

After a long 17 years Gujarat ATS has nabbed key conspirator of Akshardham attack from Anantnag in Kashmir. The accused Yasin Bhat will be brought here for further interrogation.

Bhat went to PoK after the attack and after receiving information about his hide out Gujarat ATS and SOG formed a team and with the help of local police caught him. In this case terrorists attacked famous Akshardham temple in September 2002 in which 33 people were killed. The NSG commandos launched an operation at the temple and two terrorists who had attacked the temple were killed.

Bhat had conspired the attack after Godhra riots and terrorists entered the temple with AK47 and hand grenades and fired at the devotees. The incident took place at 4 pm and NSG launched a night long rescue operation after which the two were killed. More than 86 people were injured in the incident.

Minister of state for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja said that Bhat had transferred arms and ammunition from Kashmir to Uttar Pradesh in his car. He had made a secret cavity in which he put the arms which were sent to UP through his accomplice Chand Khan. In 2003 Chand Khan was arrested but Bhat had threatened to kill him if he divulged his name.

Through all these years Gujarat police was searching Bhat. And finally managed to arrest him. He was working in a wood warehouse. Gujarat police took him to Anantnag court and got his transfer warrant and he will be brought here, Jadeja said.
