Finally the wait for much publicised Aadhaar card for NRIs is over. The government has issued a notification stating that Non resident Indians (NRIs) with valid Indian passport can apply for Aadhaar card.
The Indian passport will be accepted as proof of identity, proof of address and proof of birth date, Unique Identification Authority of India (UDAI) said. NRIs can apply for aadhaar card without mandatory 182 day waiting period. They can schedule prior appointment and go for finger prints on arrival, it said.
In case NRI passport does not have Indian address than other documents approved by UDAI will be accepted as proof of address, the release said.
