Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad

In yet another case of sheer negligence by staff of civic hospitals, a nurse on Wednesday chopped off thumb of a 6-month old child while cutting the bandage on her hand. The incident sparked off protests by the family members of the child and has once again put in question the credibility and commitment of the hospital staff.

The family members have lodged a police complaint against the nurse who fled away from the hospital and is untraceable. According to reports the six month old infant was admitted to the hospital two days back with complaints of fever and infection. She was admitted and administered glucose. The doctors had put vego on her hand for putting injections and medicines.

The girl was to be released from the hospital. The doctor had removed the vego and put bandage on the girls hand. Before discharge the nurse while removing bandage with a scissors chopped off thumb of the girl. When the infant started screaming the doctors rushed and found the mistake. They tried to stitch the thumb but were not successful.

Mayor Bijal Patel said that an inquiry has been ordered and action would be taken against those responsible. Meanwhile, father of the girl Mohammed Qureshi filed a police complaint against the staff of the hospital. He is a tailor and lives on Narol road.
