Starting October 1 only digital e-stamps will be used in Gujarat. The government has decided to end the use of Non Judicial Physical Stamps with effect from October 1.
The government has been receiving complaints about the artificial shortage of physical stamps and sale at higher prices etc, Revenue Minister of the state Kaushik Patel said. Though stamp papers purchased before 30th September will be allowed to use for six month period from the date of purchase.
He also said that e-stamps could be purchased from various authorized institutions and places including scheduled banks, post office, Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries, Common Service Center under the E-governance plan, Licensed Notaries and other authorized people/centers. Such digital revenue certificates and e-stamps could be verified through apps and websites.
Ahmedabad will have 60 e-stamping centres and 169 franking machine facilities in various bank branches. The government has decided to give licenses to stamp vendors, notary, chartered accountants, company secretaries and banks for e-stamping.
