The government today announced a scheme to waive off fine and interests on arrears of professional tax. The scheme will be in force from June 1 to August 31.
It will be applicable to small factory owners, traders doing business, employers, professionals working under the jurisdiction of Local Self-Government, ranging from gram panchayats to municipal corporations, an official release said.
This is an opportunity to get exemption for corrections and omissions by those who fear penalty. This is also an opportunity to ensure the amount is deposited in the government treasury despite the individual or organization having paid the professional tax. Those having the professional enrollment certificate, but have failed to pay the professional tax in previous years, can fill up the appropriate form and apply for exemption from interest.
This scheme also exempts such employers, professionals and traders from fine and disciplinary action – who fall under the category but have yet to get the professional tax enrollment number – to get enrolled during June 1 to August 31, 2019. They would be instantly issued the number and can pay the amount.
Those employers who have not yet registered for professional tax enrollment and not paid the tax can do that during this period from June 1 to August 31, 2019.
Those employers who have deducted professional tax from the employees but have not deposited the amount with the government will have to pay interest at the rate of 1.5 per cent per month, besides the principal amount through cash, cheque or draft for exemption from fine.
