Congress rebel MLAs Alpesh Thakore and Dhavalsinh Zala officially joined BJP on Thursday. They were welcomed by state president Jitu Vaghani at Kamalam- state BJP headquarters.
Alpesh, a Thakore leader, who rose in politics after his successful campaign for rights of OBC, was given Assembly ticket from Radhanpur. He won the elections from Congress party but the honeymoon was soon over. Alpesh who was welcomed by none other than Congress present Rahul Gandhi resigned from all posts of the party just before Lok Sabha elections.
He was joined by Zala and surprisingly none of them have been disqualified by the Speaker yet. Both of them had cross voted in Rajya Sabha polls held on July 5 and later resigned. Zala was elected from Bayad seat in Sabarkantha district.
After donning saffron scarf Alpesh said that he was feeling suffocated in Congress where factionalism was at peak. BJP was the party which respects even the smallest worker. “I am proud to be associated with BJP and will work to take dream of Prime Minister forward”, the rebel Congress MLA said.
He claimed that Congress worked for creating unrest and factionalism in the country. He claimed that during a tribal agitation for Sagarmala project Congress was ready to sacrifice lives of dalits for petty politics. “ I was very much disturbed at this and decided to quit the party”, he said.
With two more resignations the number of Congress MLAs has come down to 69. In 2017 polls the party had won 77 seats.
