Royal treasure of Junagadh soon for public display

The royal treasure of the former Nawab of Junagadh will be open for public viewing soon.

The treasure of the former ruler Mohammed Mahabat Khan III who fled away to Pakistan after independence is in the custody of Junagadh collector.

There are 219 pieces of gold, 2426 pieces of silver and other precious objects in the treasure. Minister for social justice and cultural activities Fakirbhai Vaghela told the State Assembly that the state government had prepared 34 bullet proof showcases at the cost of Rs.75 lakh to exhibit the treasure.

Earlier on two occasions the collection was displayed. First time in 2003 during Navrati Utsav in Ahmedabad and second in Junagadh itself few years back.

The Junagadh museum which has a rich collection of the erstwhile royal families will be the first to have such bullet proofs showcases.
