Sops to industries in Gujarat, no locals employed

Gujarat Global News Network, Gandhinagar

Though the state government offers great sops to industries they have failed to recruit locals. The big promise of generating employment and jobs to locals has fallen flat. The government has admitted this but no action has been taken.

State Labour and employment minister admitted this fact in the State Assembly on Wednesday. In reply to about a dozen questions from different MLAs about jobs to locals the minister admitted that the companies have failed to recruit locals. About action taken, he had a simple reply. The government has asked them to employ locals and the district labour and employment office has been asked to keep an eye!!!

The companies which have breached the contract include Tata Motors, Ford India Ltd., Suzuki Motor Gujarat P Ltd, Adani Power, L&T, Reliance and others. Government enterprises like ONGC, Airport Authority of India, IOC, Nuclear Power Corporation Ltd, and HPC.

The BJP government has over few years extended various types of benefits to companies inviting them to invest in Gujarat. Starting with Tata Motors which shifted from West Bengal to Gujarat and set up Nano production plant in Sanand, various automobile companies have made Gujarat their home.

Right from land at hugely discounted rates to subsidised power and tax holidays everything has been extended to these industries. In agreement with each company the state has a condition of employment to locals. But none seem to have followed it and the state government is satisfied just with making them understand to employ locals!!

The minister said that government will organise job fairs and recruit people from the state. In some cases it said that it had initiated action sent details to industries department for necessary action.
