This weekend keep indoors as the met office has issued a red alert for high temperatures across the state from Friday. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has also issued orange alert for Friday where the mercury is set to touch 43 degrees and rise to 45 by Sunday.
The state is reeling under severe hot weather with temperatures around 41 degrees at most of the places. As per weather department heat wave conditions are expected to prevail in Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Surat , Saurasthra-Kutch, Amreli, Diu and other parts.
The authorities have advised people not to venture out in the afternoon and take adequate steps to prevent heat stroke. On Thursday Ahmedabad recorded 42 degress while Amreli had the highest temperature of 42.8, followed by Rajkot and Surendranagar at 42.3.
The heat wave is mainly due to westerly to North westerly winds prevailing at lower levels over the region, met office said.
