Two from Gujarat included in Modi’s cabinet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inducted two ministers from Gujarat in his first cabinet expansion.

Mohan Kundaria, MP from Rajkot, and Hari Chaudhary, MP from Banaskantha, were sworn-in as ministers of state in Modi’s cabinet. A total of 21 ministers were sworn-in, as Modi expanded his cabinet for the first time since coming to power in May.

Kundaria had kicked off a controversy recently by walking over children during a function, He was seen as a probable. But Chaudhary’s inclusion became public only on Sunday morning. Chief Minister Anandi Patel congratulated them for their induction in the Union government.

Sixty-three-year-old Kundaria is a first-time MP, but he is a five-time former MLA, and also had two stints as minister of state in the Gujarat government.

Chaudhary, 60, is a four-time MP from Banaskantha, having first won in 1998, and again in 1999. He had lost in 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, before being elected to the Lok Sabha again in June last year following death of then MP Mukesh Gadhvi.
