Ultimately, GMC continues with Prez Virendra Pandit

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad

After a lapse of three and half months, Gujarat Media Club today announced its new executive council. Since no one had filed nomination for the post of President and efforts of founders of the GMC failed to rope in new president, Virendra Pandit was requested to continue for the second term.

Virendra Pandit has created a sort of record for being President of the GMC for the second successive term. GMC laws have provision for one year term only.

The eleventh year of the GMC, a club of Ahmedabad based journalists, began with one of the worst identity crisis as there were nominations only for three posts and none for the post of the President. Virendra Pandit had refused to continue.

This is happening almost every year. But this year, GMC could not find President for three and half months.

This brought the 400plus member club to a standstill. The annual general meeting which should be held in March was not held. No progress was made on the annual journalists’ excellence awards which are sponsored by ONGC.

Even after ten years and membership base of over 400, GMC has not been able to make place among journalists of Ahmedabad. Its events lack involvement of members and it is still viewed as a club of English media.

GMC tried to shake off this image by having Padmshri Devendra Patel, a well known column writer presently associated with Gujarati daily Sandesh, as President before Virendra  Pandit. After a year and lots of efforts to rejuvenate and reinvent GMC, Devendra Patel retired as a frustrated President without any answer to the apathy of members.

Here is the list of EC as per a release issued by GMC.
